“They were sleeping on a single air mattress that was shared by the entire family in the common living area of the apartment. Now, three kids had their own bed to sleep in. And from that point, I wondered 'What more can I do?'”Read this inspiring story about how Tim Taylor, a flight nurse and part-time paramedic for Monroe Community Ambulance, discovered SHP and began volunteering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. His "what more can I do?" turned into a new chapter, serving Monroe County, Michigan.https://lnkd.in/ggRwWUxi#SHPbeds #SocialImpact #HumansHelpingHumans #EndChildBedlessness #WeAreSHP #MonroeCounty #Michigan #DifferenceMaker

We help to enrich the lives of the patients and staff at Liverpool University Hospital Foundation Trust

Help needed..... Did you know that nearly 50% of people die in hospital? We (Liverpool University Hospitals) have dedicated SWAN nurses to support these patients. SWAN is a model of care that promotes person / family centred care and empowers the families to make decisions and hospitals have one chance to get the death of the patient correct. Our swan nurses are dealing with many more families with young children and we are we are looking for funding to purchase special books around bereavement, death and loss. The cost of these books is £300 and will be used at The Royal & Aintree Hospitals. Do you know anyone that fund these books? These books are vital to helping children cope with loosing a parent / grandparent / carer.

12 years ago, my grandmother died alone in a hospice care facility, after spending 4 months there in a coma. She survived a tough motherhood with 3 children after her husband was killed in the Korean War. She sacrificed so much for her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. I wish I could have helped my grandmother plan so she didn't have to leave her home at the end of her life. To me, my grandmother's death is a stark reminder that open communication and planning are crucial. The best time for planning is now.#estateplanning #longtermcare #family https://lnkd.in/epgVyiC9

Homelessness should not be an inevitable outcome for people struggling in a turbulent and unforgiving housing market. But, for the past three years, stagnant housing benefits have increased the risk of homelessness for too many people unable to access private rentals. While rental costs have increased at an unprecedented rate, housing benefits were found to cover as little as 5% of the market, remaining frozen at pre-pandemic levels. However, the Autumn Budget has brought some welcome relief to the twin crises of homelessness and housing.Uprating Local Housing Allowance to ensure that 30% of the private rental market is accessible to households on lower incomes is an immediate and urgently needed fix, as is the commitment to uprate benefits in line with inflation. But, despite the alleviation of pressure on those in the private rental sector, deeper change is still needed. For example, there is evidence to suggest that linking benefit payments to more punitive sanctions can increase risk of homelessness, and unfreezing LHA (particularly if only a one-off increase) will do little for people stuck in temporary accommodation, or address the dwindling stock of social housing. As we head into the winter months, many households will continue to struggle, charities are facing unprecedented demands on their services, and local authority budgets are stretched to their limits.More action is needed, but you can help today. Support our winter campaign, help us fund 1,000 Beds for Christmas, and be part of a collective mission to tackle homelessness and end the need for rough sleeping. Donate here:https://shorturl.at/lyFP1 In Greater Manchester, we don’t walk on by.

BREAKING NEWS! SOARING FAMILY NATION IS HERE.Quick story … Last weekend, I was getting ready to tell our Soaring Families members about the new community we’re launching … But things did NOT go as planned. A few minutes before hitting “SEND”, I placed my wine glass (full of red) back on the table, missed the coaster, and it dropped to the floor and smashed.Along the way it hit the arm of the couch, and splashed the wine all over the cushions.Cleanup was 35 mins. The event itself took 3.5 seconds. Why I’m sharing all of this?Well, for about 10 minutes after it happened, I kinda lost it. So FRUSTRATED. I guess it was mostly anger.I yelled (everyone was asleep) in desperation and felt sorry for myself that a planned relaxing evening was ruined. (It really wasn't).Even the dog scurried away thinking somehow it was his fault!I guess it was the culmination of a crazy busy week which only added to the stress level. That story one of the reasons why we’re launching this NEW community. Here’s the deal.We ALL need social interaction and support. As people, as friends, especially as family caregivers. We ALL need someone to talk to … to listen, to guide, to help clean up the (red wine) mess.If we want to perform at a high level, we all need a GOOD COACH, too.You. Me. Everyone. So, to help make this happen, we’re officially launching our private community called, SOARING FAMILY NATION (SFN).For now, it’s going to be FREE to join. Essentially, here’s what it’s gonna look like:* * * * * 1 – each month, I’ll leave you with one strategy to:(a) improve/create a better home care experience for your family,(b) help you reduce your stress (like cleaning up your red wine mess), and(c ) save you lots of time so you can get to other more meaningful, more fun things in your life.2 – SFN will be a platform for you to post your questions about your caregiving situation, and I’ll answer those questions either in a live or pre-recorded session,3 – SFN will give you the opportunity to tap into the experiences of other families.4 – SFN will also be a place to send direct messages to each other.* * * * *This is a REAL community. NOT another private Facebook community. It’s a community we own and manage … and it’s completely PRIVATE.And, it comes with a FREE APP so you can keep track of the conversations on your phone.SO … If you’re in a family caregiving role, and this sounds like a community you want to be a part of, send me a DM or respond in the comments, and I’ll add you.No cost. No commitment. And you can leave anytime (unlike Hotel California). Two things I can guarantee – it will be a GAME changer, and it WON’T be free forever.I hope you'll JOIN. Start easing your stress, your weariness, and uncertainty. The more people who do, the easier it will be to attract new families, and the more support and help we can provide.YOU IN?#eldercare #homecare #homehealth #care

As reported in this story, many of the individuals and families who visit Bountiful Basket for food assistance are hard working people - teachers, paraprofessionals, laborers, nurses, etc. It is reported that the cost of groceries are up 33.5% since the pandemic. Add the rising cost of housing, childcare and other life expenses, many families simply can not make ends meet. Food Shelves are assisting more people than ever. While the demand continues to rise, our promise to the community is to continue to work hard and source the necessary food and funds to make sure that we can meet the need and serve our families with a welcoming and dignified experience.https://lnkd.in/eSGyDvvv

I am delighted to have been able to support Oxfordshire County Council with their Unpaid Carers Strategy over the last 6 months. It has now been published below. Sadly, Oxfordshire is in a unique position where it does not provide the required support for its 12,000 young carers and charities, Be Free Young Carers is picking up the slack. All our surrounding county councils have excellent provision for these vulnerable children, Bedfordshire, Bucks, Berkshire, and Wiltshire - superb support, but for some reason it has not been a priority for OCC. This strategy is a step in the right direction but doesn't go far enough - 'all aged unpaid carers' is like lumping all NHS practices from geriatrics to maternity, together in one strategy and treating them all the same. I am hoping that this is the start of OCC working more closely with us as an organisation, prioritising young people, especially young carers. Funny enough, I was the only person sitting around the table not getting paid for my advice, our colleagues at Carers Oxfordshire, Age UK Oxfordshire all receive funding for their provisions. If OCC is serious about its support for young carers then start working in partnership with those that are doing the job now.We need to change the narrative that OCC doesn't have funds. There are funds there, they just aren't being spent in the correct areas. If OCC is serious about making changes for young carers, then fund young carer services like they do adult carer services. We must do more for the most vulnerable children in our society.Link for the strategy in the comments below#youngcarers #funding #youngpeople #children https://lnkd.in/eQ3grZZR
